Hey guys, it’s 11pm in Portugalete, Basque Country, Spain and I’m writing my first blog post from the comfort of my bed- the inside of a children’s play structure in the middle of the city. Here’s how I got here.

I grew up in a beautiful small town called Ashland, at the southern tip of Oregon. Ever since I was a young kid, I had a passion for the outdoors. Whether it be backpacking, camping, hiking, skiing or mountain biking, I found a deep belonging to nature. As I graduated high school, I had a lot to think about. Along with many external pressures pushing me in directions I thought were practical at the time, deep down I knew it wasn’t what I really wanted and needed in my life. I ended up doing ROTC at Oregon State University for several months, dropped it, then tried college football at Southern Oregon University. Being the star football player/jock in high school, I thought it would be perfect. But a month later something inside me said to leave. Now here I am, sitting uncomfortably in a children’s play structure in the middle of a country I’ve never been to. And for the first time it feels like I’m taking a step in the right direction.

This blog is going to be a collection of videos, pictures, stories, and advice from a broke 19 year old, learning and getting humbled by this giant rock floating through the universe.
